Early Learning Is a Jump Start to Success for Black Boys
Many parents aren't aware that being unprepared in such critical years of development causes a lot of unwanted issues for them and their child.
Fathers Incorporated is driving literacy improvements in Black boys. One of the things that educational research speaks to in regards of early learning development is how important it is for parents and families to read to their children and allow them to read to them.
In the cases of areas and communities that have high dropout rates, poverty, homelessness and high illiteracy rates, educational leaders have to be strategic about how to bridge the gap so that every family finds success for their child.
For example, The Advancement Project has worked to call an end to the school-to-prison pipeline. They believe that a healthy balance of parent empowerment so that Black boys ages 0-4 can begin active learning from their first educators, their parents and family.
Rarely, at home or in school do we highlight the academic attributes/strengths of Black boys. Many times we don't even know what they are.
Pre-k is a resource that will help prepare Black boys to be successful in school. The biggest challenge is not admission, it's not having a Black male teacher during this critical time period. Critical because by third grade, Black boys are expected to be able to meet and exceed state academic measures like all other students and/or subgroups.

Preparing our Black boys to level up begins with improving their transitions. We must help guide single parents of Black boys through this process. That's how we all play a role in being proactive about ensuring our Black boys make it through the school-to-college pipeline and not school to prison pipeline.For example, The Advancement Project has worked to call an end to the school-to-prison pipeline.
