Former H.S. Class President Now Local School Board Member
There's finally something in the water that is producing good results. This is the second Black male recently elected to a school board in Georgia.
Everton Blair was recently elected to the Gwinnett Board of Education. His presence on the board brings more than just diversity to the table.
The lack of self motivation is students is not uncommon. On average, Black boys are told more negative things about them than positive.
We often assume that every child is going home to an loving, care, safe environment. This isn't the story for all children.
So when teachers aren't motivating students through positive affirmations, students shut them out. This impacts learning.
I believe that Everton's experience as a teacher and with policy development will bring much needed light to policies around discipline, attendance, transportation, special education and other areas.
