We Must Come Together to Implement Food Programs in the Summer

We are closing out school programs, navigating through virtual learning, preparing for virtual graduation celebrations and just simply living day to day.

I have not seen any school districts in Georgia discussing summer outreach. Especially since the Governor is allowing day cares and summer programs to open June 1^st.

Schools and communities must work together during June – August if we're going to feed children during the summer break.

The challenge with summer school or summer enrichment programs being cancelled or done virtually is the same problem we're having now. The resources and support for operating food banks at schools or gymnasiums. 

Well, Alabama has an innovative initiative taking place that is helping with the issue of ensuring children in lower income communities have food. I am challenging everyone to petition Georgia leaders to:

1. Help keep people working who are supporting our lower income citizens.

2. Equip churches and other non-profits that provide food and support to families in need.

3. Support staffing agencies with resources that help connect those seeking work with active employment

4. Re-image and reform the funding formula for schools so that schools in lower income communities doesn't suffer.
